All labor has dignity
by martin luther king jr.
All Labor has Dignity is a collection of previously unpublished speeches by Martin Luther King Jr. focusing on his vision of economic justice and
demand for equality. Edited and introduced by Washington University professor Michael K. Honey, All Labor has Dignity includes several of King's lectures to unions from the 1960s. Honey discovered King's speeches in Atlanta in 1992 in an unobtrusive folder, full to the brim with written copies of King's addresses to labor unions and workers' rights coalitions.
It is often overlooked, but King was dedicated to more causes than just those of racial equality. He also fought for worker's rights and dreamed of connecting the labor and civil rights movements, two reforms he envisioned hand in hand as far as social reforms go.
This collection of formerly unknown speeches give a new opinion of King and also provides his insight on the subject of labor and unions as we struggle to end poverty. With all types of speeches from lectures to unions in the 60s to addresses during King's Poor People Campaign to his famous "Mountaintop" speech, All Labor has Dignity intertwines economic and racial justice on new levels, united by the common idea of rights and equality for everyone.
